I was in my work car, driving especially carefully due to rain, and a nagging feeling that something was off today. That nagging feeling was right. As I entered the intersection, in the Yaris, I had a green light. The Trax decided that was the perfect time to try to turn left.....I had basically no time to react, but was able to turn to the right enough to make it more of a deflection than a head on impact with her. It helped that I had slowed to about 45km/h (in a 50km/h zone) because this is a problematic intersection. Luckily the driver of the semi was a witness and gave a statement to the police in defense of me. I hit my head on the A-pillar, the air bag didn’t go off, and I may be mildly concussed. But that’s it, it could’ve been a lot worse. As much as I hate on the higher door sills, and larger pillars, I think they saved me from worse injury today.

I'm not sure what the thinking was...if there was any thinking at all. She was either blindly following the driver that turned before her, or somehow didn't see me. I suppose she thought she had enough room, which is terrifying considering I was already entering the intersection when she gunned it

I shall do so, the doctor didn't think I was more than mildly concussed, if at all. Still taking a couple days off of driving and work just in case. Yeah I'm sure as hell glad it wasn't anything like that. Also good that it was in the brand new work car, and not my own old Blazer

Yeah I'm glad to find out my reflexes are that good. I'm curious to see if the Yaris is repairable actually, some stuff on the side of the engine bay was shoved into things, and the wheel was on a funny angle....the body still looked straight though

Ouch - glad everyone was ok. Was the other driver from outside BC? A lot of them get caught out by the fact that a blinking green means jack shit in BC (light will change if pedestrian pushes a button or something dumb vs. right of way in the rest of Canada). Or did they finally change that?

I had a similar experience last night. I was leaving school, getting on the highway. I put my signal on to merge, and a guy in a cobalt sped up next to me. I swerved right, blaring on my horn and he kept going. I get off the highway thinking it’d be safer. I ended up almost hitting 3 different people jaywalking across a 6 lane street in the dark. What is with people? I’m glad youre okay, double glad you werent hit in your own vehicle. Ive been tboned in my work truck, glad it wasnt my truck.

I take back everything I just said. It’s why the semi driver is a great man and a great driver! He determined that the weather was on the cusp of being too warm or too cold, so he put on shorts WITH a hoodie, so he’d have an option to remove the hoodie to keep nice and comfortable. His forward thinking makes him a fantastic driver, and an upstanding citizen!

Way too much stupid out there, especially at intersections. Because of that I am literally coasting, covering the brake, and looking for anything that might tip me off that they will turn in front of me. Staring them down helps too. Glad it wasn't any worse.
